2. Organizational Issues
ON SEC REGISTRATION
The immediate plan is to file our SEC registration. As voted upon,
the name SLU Boys' High Class 84, Inc. will be the registered name.
It was also agreed that in order to fast track our registration, the
initial officers will be composed of batchmates who are based in
Baguio. Amendments to this could follow should there be a need to
address leadership issues. We will be posting a list of Baguio based
batchmates who are willing to steer the group in the meantime. A
poll will be made and the result of which will be the basis for our
initial list of officers.
Committees will be created to address the different concerns of the
group. Satellite organizations; Manila, Singapore, US, Canada,
Australia and the rest of the world; will be created. It is also
suggested that satellite organizations create the same committees in
their respective areas inorder to streamline activities in the
different committees created.
Eric Tacio suggests that before anything else, we should fast track
our SEC registration before moving forward. Our legal personality is
a matter of importance. He further suggested that an election
follow, then the calendar of activities be created. The majority
agreed to Eric's suggestion
Jessie Mina pointed out that the unity and the immediate registration
of the group with the SEC is a concern of the California group.
Financial support is not a matter of concern should the group have a
solid program. He pointed out that the Baguio group should start the
ball rolling before support could be given. In the meantime support
in terms of books, computers and the like could be arranged by the
California group as initial support.
ON FUND COLLECTION
As I mentioned before and would like to make clear, we are not yet in
the stage where funds are to be collected. To clarify matters, the
Php1000.00 contribution that the Baguio batchmates made was for the
Dec. 29, 2006 activity. A report coming from the appointed
treasurer, Victor Garcia, will be posted at the yahoogroups site for
everybody's perusal.
Eric Tacio suggests that an annual registration fee be collected from
our batchmates. It was seconded by Joseph Cabato. I suggested that
only the interest of these funds be used in supporting our projects.
The principal should remain in the bank in a non-withdrawable
account.
ON THE VISION STATEMENT
Jessie Mina pointed out the sentiments of the California group
particularly that of Angelo Cabanban with regards to the words used
in our Vision Statement. The use of the word "Philantrophic"
and "global" is stirring controversy. Secondly, it is a vague vision
statement.
Ferdz Blanco suggests repharasing the Vision statement. Leandro
Yangot Jr pointed out that the vision statement is the output from
the goal setting workshop. It has been formally adapted by the
group. He further suggests that we should move on with the SEC
registration since the vision and mission statements are not a
requirement for SEC registration.
I reminded those who were present that the original plan was for the
Goal setting workshop to be conducted last 29 of December 2006. The
reason why it was conducted last September 23, 2006 was because of
the insistence of our other batchmates that things should be fast
tracked. In response to it, the schedule was moved accordingly. It
was my appeal that the Vision statement be retained as it has been
the effort of those who attended the workshop that will be put to
waste. Please be reminded that it was a collective collaboration of
those present that made the Vision Statement what it is now. It was
not just the opinion of one single individual. True to your
observations, philantrophic and global are too ambitious. As pointed
out, it was not even used by Bill Gates in his Vision Statement.
Please be aware that the Vision Statement is what we are aspiring to
achieve in this lifetime. It will be our mission statements and our
objectives that will complete these aspirations.
When we created this Vision Statement, we followed a simple guide.
We needed to have it written down, written in the present tense as if
it has already been accomplished, it covers a variety of activities
and time frames, and it is filled with descriptive details that
anchor it to reality.
In the creation of the mission statements, we set our statements
towards an inspiring, exciting, clear and engaging mission
statement. It was seen to be specific to our particular enthusiasms,
gifts and talents. We wanted it to be large enough to encompass a
lifetime of activities, powerful and all encompassing. It does not
benefit an individual or a single party.
Brothers, let us avoid the pitfall and potholes that we will
encounter along the way. These pitfalls and potholes disguise
themselves as Feeling of Inadequacy, accusations of others, small-
mindedness of others, distractions, fear, impatience, compromise,
apathy and pride.
ON SETTING THE MAJORITY
There is a need to define what the term MAJORITY would mean. There
will be certain issues that need to be voted upon, who will be
allowed to vote? What number would constitute a majority vote?
There is also a need to further establish our database. Although we
have close to 200 contact details available, we have yet to see
active participation and the further increase in our database. I
will be posting the available database that we have on hand in
MSExcel format. I hope everyone could access it. We still do not
have some of our brothers online, I will keep the list available in
hard copy for those who are interested to have them. The yahoogroups
directory needs updating. Not all our members are registered online,
others have yet to identify themselves, others have yet to post their
contact details.
